Coastal Flooding Warnings in NJ

Thanks Hurricane Ida. At least your wrath will pass before we venture into Manhattan on Sunday.

So we visited Long Branch, NJ three or four years ago on a baseball trip and Karen, our GPS, found us a great pizza place called Tony's Tomato Pies. Somehow, the name (or at least the "Tony's" part) got lodged in my brain and associated with the tastiness of their fare. Upon landing in Newark today, I got an immediate craving for Tony's and had to find it. I sorta knew where it was, but not really and I couldn't remember the full name so we drove to the general vicinity and once again consulted Karen. She did not disappoint. She led us to that beacon of tomato pies and a glorious feast of garlic bread knots and a big fat pizza. There is a God. Sometimes it's the small things.

What we weren't prepared for was the remnants of Hurricane Ida spawning a Nor'easter up here and causing a buttload of rain, tidal surges, waves galore and coastal flooding. Beach sand covered the streets in places. Needless to say, the place is messed up. Thanks Ida. But I did get my Tony's Tomato Pie, so all is right in the world. And, yes, "buttload" is a meteorological measurement for precipitation.
