We got up early and headed on our drive south to Seward, Alaska to visit Kenai Fjords National Park, one of only two National Parks in Alaska accessible by car. That said, you can't do much by car, but you can go straight up to a glacier...so close you can lick it if you want. Other than that, you can visit by way of a boat tour, which we had already decided the night before.
So we got to Kenai, did some hiking, licked a glacier, jumped over streams, etc., all in a steady drizzle. Honestly, as you will see in the photos, the clouds and rain made for some excellent photos, especially on the boat tour.
Upon leaving Kenai, we headed to our motel in Seward. I had a bad feeling about this place when I booked it, but when we got there, the lady in the office was so nice, I thought I must be wrong even though the place looked like an extra long set of single-wide trailers. Nothing against trailer park people...(not really - I have everything against them). I mentioned that we had a boat tour booked and she asked which one. When I told her we were doing the four hour tour, she mocked me and said, "Well, I would have chosen a longer one if I were you. You'd get to see more." So she called over there and they had room on the tour that left 2.5 hours earlier than the one we had booked, so we threw our stuff in the room and ran to the shuttle for the two-block ride over there and upgraded. We got on board to find out that there we only 30 people on the boat instead of the usual 150. The next six hours were simply incredible.
Since I am not gifted enough to describe what we saw with my limited vocabulary, I will just end this post with a link to the photos from Day 2. Here's one to get you started.
