1972 - 37 years ago today, the Cardinals trade pitcher Steve Carlton to the Phillies for pitcher Rick Wise. Carlton will go on to win 241 games and four Cy Young Awards for the Phillies.
Wise, on the other hand, went on
to barely win 113 games with four different teams after the trade (only 32 with the Cardinals) and only had 181 wins in his career. Another fun fact about Rick...he received no votes when he became eligible for the Hall of Fame in 1988. Steve Carlton got 436 (95.8%) of the votes on his first attempt in 1994. Even Dwight Gooden got 17 votes in 2006 and he was an alleged coke/crack head!
