Basement Cats

Last Wednesday, I went out to throw a bag of trash into the dumpster and what did I see? About 20 feet beyond the garage was a little black cat. After another few seconds, I saw that there we two little black kittens with her. Someone had just thrown food on the ground and put out a tub of water. Nice. Now kittens and ants were being fed. Damn it. As if I don't have enough cats already.

I showed Julia and our neighbor, Lucy, who has rescued several strays since living across the hall, and we decided to put them in her side of the basement since it was supposed to rain that night. We talked to a girl who lives in that building who had never seen the kitties before the last few days when a couple of hoosiers moved into her building. Awesome. I love hoosiers.

So we put the three black furred ones in the basement and left a note on the door of the building to see if they belonged to someone or if a neighbor was just being kind to some little felines.

The next morning, Julia got a call from "Jody," originally from Rolla, who just moved in with her friend who is seven months pregnant. They have a meth-mouth guy hanging around too, but he doesn't appear to live there. Awesome. Jody went on to say that she and her friend had just moved from a place on Grand that was dangerous and the wanted to live somewhere quieter. Lucky us. These kitties had been "hanging out back by the shed" and she just couldn't leave them there so she brought them with her. She can't keep them because she's got a dog that would probably eat them. So she brought three roaming kitties to a better neighborhood to roam and forage. God, I love hoosiers. I hope they ask me to live with them.

So we're tending to our four plus the three little Basement Cats.
Anyway, we're looking for someone to adopt these little bits of feline awesomeness. Lord knows if we didn't already have The 4 Dings, we'd take them. The momma kitty is very small and young, probably the first time she could have kittens. She is VERY friendly and affectionate and they are all clean and healthy looking for being outdoors for a time. The kittens are not as friendly, but the are coming around and VERY playful.
If nobody takes them, we know someone with a farm who will take all three, but they really have a chance to be great pets, so we're hoping to find someone to take them.

Post a comment or email me at the3dings@yahoo.com if you want a super awesome kitten!
