Day 7: Back to Anchorage

And so it ends...

We got in the car at 9 a.m. on Thursday in Fairbanks and headed southish to Anchorage to catch our flight back to Seattle/Orange County by 1 a.m. on Friday morning. We reached Anchorage around 9:15 p.m. and had to return the car by 11 p.m. and get checked in for our flight. It was still light out at that time, but probably the "darkest" we had seen while in Alaska, mostly due to the overcast skies.

Alaska was an incredible place where we conquered planes, trains and automobiles while viewing moose, grizzlies, caribou, wolves, red foxes, humpback and fin whales, orcas, porpoises, harbor seals, stellar sea lions, puffins, bald eagles, ground squirrels, gyrfalcons, Dall's sheep, sled dogs and mosquito swarms the size of storm clouds and rain - lots of rain. It was a visually stunning journey through the frozen tundra, tiaga and boreal forests with very little population to interfere. The photo below pretty much defines our entire trip and as the Governator of California once said when he had a cool job, "I'll be back!"HERE are the photos of the journey between Fairbanks and Anchorage. Enjoy!
