On This Date in Baseball: August 12

1963 - Stan Musial announces he will retire at the end of the season. Booooooo!

1966 - Art Shamsky of the Cincinnati Reds hit three home runs in a 14-11, 13-inning loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates at Crosley Field. For Everybody Loves Raymond fans, like me, this is Robert's favorite player ever and the name of his dog.

1994 - The players went on strike for the sport's eighth work stoppage since 1972.
Overall, a pretty crappy day in baseball history...unless you are Robert Barone.
