Dave's Most Favorite Uniforms (Part II)

1979 Philadelphia Phillies
I can't lie. I love the Phillies' uniforms, especially the powder blue road unis. There's something very nostalgic about the powder blues for this child 'o the 80s. The home uniform (with the "P" logo and pinstripes) lifespan was 1970-1991. The powder blue out-of-towners were in use from 1973-1988, but were mothballed in 1989. Booooooo! Way to crush the memories of my youth. That's okay, I bought one of my very own when I was in Philly a few years ago. Enjoy this photo of me wearing it while swinging away in the batting cages in Cooperstown. I'm a very bad man with a bat in my hands, huh?
However, I'm not quite sure what they were thinking with the Santa Claus "Saturday Night Special" uniforms in 1979. Larry Christenson, the guy in the photo, looks like he's pitching in his oversize footy pajamas. As the name might suggest, they were supposed to be worn for Saturday night games, but everyone (fans, media and players alike) thought they were so hideous that they were only worn for one game (May 19, 1979). I can't imagine much that would be more embarrassing that wearing that uniform. Maybe a tattoo of the uniform on your face, but not much else, which makes it one of my most hated uniforms of all time.

Here are two examples of the home and away jerseys in use by Steve Carlton and Mike Schmidt (pictured in his super awesome Kellogg's cereal card).
