With the current price of gas averaging $4+ across the nation, the number one question we got before leaving for our trip was, "How much are you going to spend on gas?" Well, now that our trip is complete and we're back home with The Dings (our cats), I've complied some gas stats for your review. Enjoy.
Lowest Price Paid Per Gallon: $3.82 (Casper, Wyoming)
Highest Price Paid Per Gallon: $4.50 (Cascade Locks, Oregon and Beaver, Utah)
Gallons Purchased: 152.315 gallons
Total Spent on Trip: $579.96
Average Price Per Gallon: $4.13
Total Miles Driven: 5,443.7
Miles Per Gallon: 35.74
All in all, not too bad. I, being my usual conservative self with my projections, assumed 25 miles per gallon, which accounted for a projected $871 to be spent on gas. The additional 10.74 miles per gallon than projected, thanks to the rental car choice of Indy Car 2007, allowed us to come in $291.04 under projections. Woo hoo!
Upon our arrival back home, Julia's government stimulus check was waiting for the sole purpose of covering our gasoline expenses. Again, woo hoo!
